Digital Radio UK starts to promote DAB+ radio upgrade – RadioToday

Currently, although the majority of new digital radios available at retail are DAB compatible, industry estimates that only 30-40 of DAB digital radios in homes will receive DAB stations, highlighting the need to communicate that there are now many stations available that can only be heard with a DAB compatible radio, or by listening online or on a smart speaker. Digital Radio UK's summer communications programme also features new creative supporting in-car digital radio upgrade. - radiotoday.co.uk

UK to ban junk food advertising online and before 9pm on TV from 2023

The government is poised to announce a ban on junk food advertising online and before 9pm on TV from 2023, as Boris Johnson looks to deliver on his pledge to tackle the UK's growing obesity crisis. The 9pm pre-watershed ban on advertising TV products deemed to be high in fat, salt and sugar could cost TV broadcasters such as ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky more than 200m a year in revenue. - www.theguardian.com

A bonanza of f**k-ups and trolling: What I learnt from being glued to GB News for a week

A major difference from Fox News though is the lack of that zealous, tribal devotion for their affiliated political party - Republicans for Fox, Conservatives for GB News.1./50.World news in pictures. Why was furlough not being extended What's being done about flood defences Are lockdown restrictions just a way for the Tories to push their radical new green agenda Despite being in the same culture war trench as Downing Street, Team GB News simply can't help getting in a pub fight with absolutely everyone, Tories included. - www.independent.co.uk

UK government to hold formal Channel 4 privatisation review - TBI Vision

The UK government is to hold a formal review into selling Channel 4, the British broadcaster behind hits such as It's A Sin, following month's of speculation about the service's future. Channel 4 has been owned by the UK government since its launch in 1982, but ministers have argued that the rise of streaming services has changed the landscape to such an extent that the broadcaster may be better placed in private ownership. - tbivision.com

Gillian Reynolds: GB News suggests Andrew Neil has fallen prisoner to some serious delusions

On the evidence so far of GB News, his new television network, he appears to have become a prisoner of some serious delusions. GB News will make news, probably more from Andrew Neil's interviews than from assorted presenters sitting round a table commenting on each other. - inews.co.uk

GB News – Pretending For Real – Matt Deegan Writes

For GB News it'll also help that they're very much a comment channel than a news one. GB News doesn't really have much reporting resource and will mainly take agency feeds, aided by a handful of reporters to provide colour from across the UK. The idea that GB News can occupy a news position is wishful thinking, and I'd assume they know that. - www.mattdeegan.com

GB News was a disaster from start to finish

Second is the false founding GB News myth that BBC/ITV/Sky News don't reflect the kind of anti-woke, Brexity, chippy views that GB News is supposedly the only safe space for. Inside the rise and fall of The Jeremy Kyle Show: 'It was a ticking timebomb'

Kane's story might have been splashy enough for The Jeremy Kyle Show to put it on display, but in one sense it's completely unremarkable there were 3,320 episodes of the programme, broadcast over 14 years and 17 series, and Kane is one of thousands of guests to have taken a seat on Kyle's stage. In February 2020, there was another death linked to The Jeremy Kyle Show that of 31-year-old Natasha Reddican, who took her own life at her home in Salford, nine months after the show was taken off air. - www.theguardian.com
