Helicopters move materials in to stricken Bilsdale mast

Arqiva has begun airlifting materials onto the Bilsdale site in North East England as part of urgent work to build an 80m-high temporary mast. Helicopters are moving around 200 x 750kg concrete blocks to the site that will anchor the temporary mast in place. - link

SITE Operators of Bilsdale transmitter Arqiva have provided a second site update on the construction of the new 80-metre temporary mast. Once finished and operational, the 80-metre mast is expected to provide Freeview TV signals to an area covering over 90 per cent of households ordinarily served by the damaged Bilsdale mast. - link

Ofcom is responsible for the demise of impartial news

It is being launched by a proper journalist it will have proper journalists, including Morgan, as stars it will feature proper news broadcasts and sport, entertainment and current affairs and it will be much more like normal, responsible television than the grotesque paranoid mess that is GB News. So I don't blame Murdoch or Farage or Legatum for the decline in the standard of news broadcasting to sub Fox News levels, but Ofcom, which cheerfully allows this bastardisation of journalism to fester and ferment. - link

'Cake' mentioned 10 times more than 'climate change' on UK TV

While terms describing the issue - climate change, climate emergency and climate crisis - had 14,540 mentions, those referring to tackling the problem - climate justice, climate action and climate solution - only had 296 mentions combined. The report analysed the subtitles from all shows in 2020 on the BBC, Sky, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and UKTV. It found climate change was mentioned 12,715 times while cake was mentioned 10 times more often, with 133,437 mentions. - link

UK's Channel 4 planning global AVOD service - TBI Vision

UK broadcaster Channel 4 is planning to launch a new international AVOD streaming service. The as-yet-unnamed streamer would form part of the company's plans to expand its brand outside of the UK, with the new ad-supported service mirroring its existing All4 BVOD. It would offer content from Channel 4-backed drama brand Walter Presents, as well as current affairs series Dispatches and news programming. - link

Plusnet customers to lose certain YouView TV channels and services from 1 November

Plusnet's YouView service includes all of Freeview's free-to-air channels, plus 15 channels that don't come with Freeview as standard, including CNN, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel, Eurosport, MTV, and National Geographic. YouView also enables you to run apps, such as BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, Netflix, and NOW TV, so long as you have accounts for these services set-up. - link

Bilsdale mast fire: Television services restored thanks to new transmitter

The company has used a combination of its existing sites and new, temporary structures to restore services and was today able to announce that an additional new transmitter site at Sutton Bank was now providing Freeview TV signals to over 100,000 households in areas including Harrogate, Knaresborough, Pickering, Ripon, Masham, Leyburn and northern parts of York. Within nine days of the fire Arqiva had returned some Freeview television services to around 250,000 households, and the following day that was extended to around 400,000. - link
