btb: The NIT for each multiplex is carried on the multiplex. It is the index for the service provided and it is, as I recall, hamming encoded for extra protection.

Hi.

Has anyone had difficulty receiving Mux SDN recently, with all the good weater. I have had virtually zero signal for early morning reception, for what is usually an acceptable signal strength/quality?

I note no engineering work has been reported, so I assume it isn't just down to that.

Regards,

Tim.

timonthenet: Well I don't know what the signal from Waltham is like in the Nottingham area where I assume that you are located, but someone else asked roughly the same question as yourself yesterday, me having reported that all was perfectly normal when checked from the outskirts of Peterborough, except that is for the PSB muxes being fractionally down to that of their normal levels received.

On the basis of your request I carried out another check about an hour ago in the Peterborough area and another on return to Stamford a few minutes ago, finding the signal levels at both locations to be virtually the same as yesterday with SDN (Ch29) being received at a slightly higher level than the PSB muxes, so signals being received to the South East of the station do not really indicate anything amiss.

timonthenet: It could be the analogue ITV1 signal from Bilsdale getting a helping hand from the weather conditions.

KMJ.

I didn't realise there was any analogue left in the area. Yes, thatcould be it.

jb38.

Thank you for your help - the signal levels after about 9:00 am over the weekend, returned to normal, it was purely the early hours that seemed to be effected. At the moment, there arn't any problems in getting a good picture with PC TV Cards, but scanning has proved difficult, since poor quality has limited the info. tables to PMT only - the remainder resolvable.

I am totally at a loss with the changes, just what sgnals need boosting still, and which could do with attenuation. What I thought was a working system, has now proved to have flaws in it - I had hoped after switch over, weather variability would no longer apply due to the increased strength. How wrong I appear to have been!

Regards both,

Tim (Nottingham - Waltham Transmitter).

Your text relating to the ITV1 Tyne-Tees analogue signal on frequency 29,and Waltham's digitally switched SDN mux also on frequency 29 interacting does hold some truth.A few hours earlier on my other TV which i still have Bilsdale snowy analogue channels 1-5 stored,i did notice the Tyne-Tees ITV1 picture did have fuzzy diagonal lines running across possibly due to what i mentioned above.Interestingly comes DSO2 on Wednesday 26 September 2012 Bilsdale's D3+4 multiplex will also be broadcasting on frequency 29 albeit on 100kw so possible future interaction with Waltham's 25kw SDN mux on frequency 29 is a small possibly but hopefully once analogue disappears from UK TV screens altogether 4 weeks after DSO2 from Bilsdale any potential interaction may possibly vanish completely after that.Just out of interest there is a likelyhood that the 100kw BBCA,BBCB (HD) and D3+4 multiplexes from Bilsdale could be picked up in my location as such HX2 9JY,the 50kw SDN,ArqA and ArqB multiplexes from Bilsdale on the other hand possibly, yes or no.
