Mike Dimmick: I did suspect that it will be actually BBC TWO analogue that gets taken off air two months early, and ITV1 analogue will swap to BBC2.

But that would not fit the usual plan, as ITV1 analogue would then have to go off air to make way for the BBCA multiplex on C55- during the two weeks between DSO1 and DSO2.

I have to agree with your comment "Ofcom are ... letting the broadcasters do whatever they want and not keeping up with the paperwork. "

It was bad enough when MuxD was going into 64QAM mode at low power levels, which was to provide Sky Sports for BT.

But doing the same to MuxC for a couple of low rent channels on transmitters where there is no power increase is intolerable - especially as Digital UK are claiming to the press and public that this does not happen.

Of course, there were always going to be issues with the COM multiplexes because of the issues around it being a "secondary network", and frequencies being pulled for 4G and DDR.

Even though, of course, 4G and DDR frequencies are going to remain "out to tender" for some time to come.

What really gets my goat is all the "official" data that is published as bloody PDFs so I can't ever import it, I have to manually check the documents, and of course the errors like the all important line in the http://licensing.ofcom.org.uk/binaries/tv/sup_dso/digital-stations-v4.pdf document being cut off.

Hello sarah when you say your getting no signal whats your set up does your aerial go straight into tv or through a dvd or vcr recorder. If it does try putting aerial straight into tv.Or have you bought a new tv and getting no signal?

Briantist, Thanks for your comments as well I was wondering why nobody had not posted any comments about Itv1 analogue being on ch59.There are constant on screen reminders coming up saying retune on 17th august. So maybe only way is to wait and see what happens on that date.

Alan: yes, the relays are another very good reason why ITV1 analogue would not be switched off early, or even BBC Two turned off. The relays, as the name indicates, receive the signal off-air from the main transmitter at Tacolneston and retransmit it on a different frequency. (Some may go via another relay.) It would definitely be unacceptable to leave some viewers completely without the channel.

My Freeview has returned to its normal quality of its own accord after a few weeks of problems, so whatever non existent "engineering work" was being carried out has now stopped interfering with the signal from Tacolneston.

Mike Dimmick: I have emailed Ofcom to ask them about where ITV1 goes. Hopefully I will get an answer in the morning.

My aerial was installed prior to analogue channel 5. Is it likely to be adequate for freeview after DSO? I ask because SDN, ArqA, and ArqB are to be transmitted at lower frequncies than existing analogue or freeview.

Also, as I am in a weak signal area, I hear rumours that an aerial with a built in 4G filter will be needed ahead of the mast amp. Is there any truth in this?

clive: Group C/D aerials still have some gain below the official group - there isn't a sharp cut-off as there is above the aerial group. See ATV Stock Aerial Tests for a comparison.

Whether or not you need a filter for 4G will depend on where you are and where the 4G transmitters using the 800MHz band are. As Tacolneston uses horizontal polarization, and 4G base stations are expected to use vertical polarization, your aerial is likely to pick up rather less 4G signals than if it were vertically-polarized.

Please check Digital UK's prediction to figure out if you really are in a weak signal area - if you provide a full postcode I can check this. Post-switchover digital signals will be substantially stronger than before. The coverage area could even be larger than analogue, because while the new digital maximum power levels are lower than analogue, they are relatively higher than at most other transmitters. Other sites use a power level one-fifth of analogue, Tacolneston will be two-fifths.
