I have an aerial on the roof in a vertical setting.
Since the changeover I have had continuing reception problems.
Last two days and specifically today could not recieve BBC reception at all. Engineer checked signal strength two weeks ago which indicated strength was high and installed a reducer.
With or without the reducer still having problems.
Helpless and frustrated. Please help.

Peterc.Waterlooville.What is the colour bung at the tips of your aerial (check during daylight hours) if i may ask ?
Is it a red tipped group A aerial or a black tipped group W wideband aerial ?
If it is a group W wideband aerial then from your abode to Rowridge (all group A mast) at more than 20-25 miles officially a poor reception area,you are using the wrong group aerial for this transmitter as group W wideband aerials are less sensitive to group A frequencies and on an all group A mast even less sensitive further still,performing poorly as a result which is why group W wideband aerials should never be used on an all group A transmitter in a poor reception/marginal reception area within its transmitting range.
Only group A aerials preferably should be used on an all group A mast,although group K aerials (grey coloured tips) can be used as a alternative except in marginal areas.

Peterc : Just out of curiosity, if you go into your TV's or boxes signal check menu whilst on BBC what do you see indicated as far as strength / quality is concerned? and if the quality is observed for a minute or so is it seen to suffer from rapid fluctuations? and if you have made this check whilst you were having problems then for comparison purposes repeat the test when you are not, giving an update on results.
Also can you receive ITV3 (10) - Pick TV (11) - or Yesterday (12) reasonably well? all three programmes mentioned being on three different mux transmitters and in the case of ITV3 with it being located on the very next mux channel to the BBC you specifically mention as having problems with, and so it wouldn't go amiss to carry out signal checks on these channels as well, as it gives an idea of whether your problem is one caused by the signal level received dropping too close to the cut off threshold, or that its due to interference from distant stations caused by the atmospheric conditions that might be prevailing at the time, the symptoms of this generally confined to affecting a particular channel rather than all of them.
The other point to remember being, that even although the aerial installer carried out an overall signal check that it only represents the findings at one point in time over a 24 hour period, and the result could well have been different if the same test had been carried out a few hours later, preferably towards evening.

Hi, you may need to get another system test, but at a time which your having issues.
The system needs to have good quality signal which is actually more important than good strength.

If the digital signal is supposed to provide a better service, why do I have problems with picture breaking up and channels intermittently missing since the change over. I live in the PO9 3QA area and out of sheet frustration have just purchased a Panasonic Viera with built in Freeview to no avail. The message comes up "bad signal" or sometimes "no signal. It is the same for my other digital TV which is connected to a different aerial. The TVS have been retuned but it makes no difference I resent the fact I am being pushed into purchasing an additional source such as Free Sat or Sky.I am on the IOW transmitter region

I live in the chichester area and I lose signal on RF channel 27 most evenings why is this? and is there any way to rectiffy this problem.

Margaret Newman: And in addition to that said by Mazbar, I just had a check at DUK's trade predictions for reception from Rowridge in your area and which has to be said doesn't exactly inspire much confidence as far as reliability of reception is concerned, as the commercial stations (10:ITV3 / 11: Pick TV / 12: Yesterday etc) have the permanent status of variable and thats when received on Rowridges vertically polarised transmissions.
Have a look up at you new aerial to make sure that it has been installed vertically (elements pointing up / down) and NOT horizontally, also it wouldn't go amiss to check with some neighbours if they experience problems when on the "same channels" as you find problems with.
By the way, these Panasonic TV's have some of the best tuners around and can give reasonably glitch free reception in situations where some other well known brands would struggle, and so the TV can be left out of the equation.

Hi, there are many issues that could be contributing to the loss of signal on channel 27.
If you can access your aerial you should try and tilt the aerial so that the elements are virtical rather than horizontal.
Other than that only a system test will provide the answer to your problem.

For some time I have kept losing the service on BBC 1-4. It says 'no service' The only way I can get it back is by going to Ch 5 and then back. Recording is not affected. The TV shop says other people have the same problem and it's not my set or aerial. They said it was due to work on the transmitter. What is going on? It happens every few minutes!
