As I responded earlier, my problems with Com7 (BBC4 HD) still exist - sometimes OK then disappears. Mostly retuning works but sometimes not. We are on the western edge of Rowridge coverage area and need boosters for everything. Is this all down to the low power of Com7?

Tony Hill: Retuning will never fix a problem with a weak signal, all it does is delete the channels already tuned and searches for them again. The postcode you provided in an earlier post is predicted to have a weak signal for COM7 from Rowridge and as you're already using an amplifier it seems unlikely that much can be done to improve the situation.

Tony Hill: Please make a complaint to the BBC about low power on COM7 from Rowridge, as I have. I had a reply about choices having to be made about broadcast power, but it seems daft for high quality programmes on BBC4 HD to be compromised like this, so if more people complain it might eventually change things.

R Murchie:
The BBC does not decide on the transmitter power for any of the services. That is agreed between the transmitter operator (arqiva) and Ofcom and has to be within agreed international parameters.

MikeP: You think BBC don't choose to put BBC Four HD on Com7?

alfonso: i think BBC4 HD went where it could go, at least at the moment. Relatively ow power is just one of those things.

MikeB: They saw fit to put it on BBC B during the Olympics and the capacity remains.

R Murchie: The capacity used for BBC4 HD on PSB3/BBCB during the Olympics was only available due to CBBC HD being temporarily moved to COM7 (BBC4 HD and CBBC HD effectively switched places). As CBBC HD is broadcast until 9pm each evening and BBC4 HD starts at 7pm they are unable to share capacity on PSB3 and there isn't enough spare capacity for another HD channel on PSB3 unless picture quality is reduced on the existing channels. This is why the BBC are using commercial capacity on COM7 for CBeebies HD, BBC4 HD and BBC News HD.

StevensOnln1: That's as maybe. Am I mistaken in that BBC are offering capacity for sale on BBC B?
link to this comment |
S
StevensOnln14:10 PM
alfonso: The capacity that was offered for sale is the post 9pm capacity shared with CBBC HD (formerly used by BBC3 HD). Whatever way you try to look at it there simply isn't capacity available for BBC4 HD on PSB3, otherwise the BBC would have used it for BBC4 HD/CBeebies HD rather than paying for commercial capacity on COM7. To put it another was, if COM7/8 didn't exist we would not have BBC4 HD on Freeview at all.
