Colin1951uk: Try your local Poundland. I got a 2m 'Belkin ProAV 1000' (!) for a pound. Scarts are really cheap because they are going out of fashion. As long as its decently shielded, it should be fine.
When we get a flat screen, it will want to use HDMI, which are less prone to this sort of thing. Its strange how its often the small things which cause the most hassle - glad you got it sorted.

Do you know why the Rowridge transmitter channel 31 (BBC News HD, BBC4 HD etc) is polarised horizontally and only 10kW as opposed to the majority which are vertical and 200kW?

Ken Peck: Officially the COM7 mux is intended to encourage viewers to equip themselves with receivers that support DVB-T2 ready for a possible transfer of some or all services to DVB-T2 transmission from possibly as early as 2018. It is a low cost network which re-uses equipment taken out of service at DSO. The power of the transmitters at each site, I suspect, is somewhat experimental, but is set to cover the largest section of the population served by the chosen transmitters, whilst causing the minimum level of interference to other areas using the same frequency. In the case of Rowridge, most viewers living reasonably close to the mast will still be using horizontal polarisation, so it was decided to use horizontal polarisation only, thus saving the considerable extra cost that would have been incured by transmitting an additional vertically polarised signal. The lower power of C31 is necessary as Oxford shares this frequency for Com7.

My Sister who has recently moved to Bournemouth rang me today (I live in Berkshire) to say that all of her BBC channels have disappeared !!!!
Further telephone investigation including appropriate retuning shows that it is only channel 23 channels that seem to be missing, all others from the Rowridge transmitter are working correctly with good (85%) signal strength. Whereas channel 23 has on 5% signal strength.
Does anyone have any clue what might be the problem please.

I live in SO40, receiving from the Rowridge transmitter. At some point on Tuesday (26th August) I lost signal from all channels in COM7 and when I retuned my digibox (Panasonic DMR-BWT720) the channels were removed from the guide entirely.
I was pretty annoyed because I had a timer set to record a programme on BBC Four HD in the early hours of Wednesday morning. When I turned the box on last night, however, I found that the programme *had* recorded! If someone could explain to me how this is possible when the tuner is showing no live information from those channels *at all*, I'd be very grateful.
I'd also appreciate any advice on how to reinstate those channels because as they don't appear in the tv guide I am unable to watch them live or set any new timers.

Seems the issue was 4G interferance blocking out random channels. Used a 4G filter and problem has now been solved.

For years I've used a Goodmans set-top box to receive digital television signals.
Now recently the television image either freezes or will stay on one station, with an inability for one to switch channels.
Since then I have bought 2 new Goodmans GD11FVZS2 digital boxes to no avail.
I have also installed a UHF 0-20dB variable gain attenuator which didn't resolve the problem.
With further testing over the best part of 2 weeks I've tried to receive a signal from 2 local transmitters and have used different 2 television sets.
The total equipment used in various combinations has been 2 x TVs, 3 x digital boxes and 1 gain attenuator.
Curiously this problem only affects all BBC channels I've tried them all. All other stations work perfectly as they have done since the digital switch over.
My aerial is the same UHF situated in the attic where it has resided for years with no problem.
A neighbour has recently told me that he is having similar problems.
