Bill: They are different systems, rain is a problem for satellite reception because the signals come from a satellite over central Africa and a very weak indeed and at a higher frequency.
Indeed, it is not normally the rain that is falling on you at the time that effects satellite reception, but that at some distance away.
As I said, rain cannot effect Freeview reception directly, the issue is the rain water getting into the cables causing a short.

I have a Philips DTR200/05 Freeview Box using Oxford Channels 53, 55, 59, 60 and 62. After swich over in October 2011 it would not hold all the channels after auto search when I switched the box off. However I have now only used manual tune on each channel in sequence, deleting stations I do not watch. So far the stations have all stayed tuned after switching off. So will not use auto search again.
Not sure why this works but perhaps it may work for others.

Like Shirley, I get unwatchable reception on ArqB (C55), but I'm in Oxford using a communal aerial system with a pretty good direct line of sight to the transmitter.
My Thompson DTR-2300 didn't have any indication of signal strength, but my new Vestel T8300 clone HD box does and shows None for signal quality and around 65% on the signal strength for ArqB. All other muxes are Good or Very Good signal quality and only SDN (C62) is below 97% strength (it is 83%).
Before the digital switchover, Mux D (C29) was fine, so we must have a wideband aerial system, but Mux2 (C68) was always very poor. On my Pace DTR730 Mux2 showed satisfactory signal quality and 1/4 signal strength. All of the other muxes were good signal quality and 2-2.5 signal strength and mostly.
My suspicion is that we now have some single frequency interference at C55 which is causing our trouble.

Mark: If you have a communal aerial system, then it quite possible that it contains an separate amplifier for each frequency used, and as C55 was not used before switchover then there will be no amplifier tuned to it.
Whoever manages the system should be able to get the equipment recalibrated to match the new broadcast parameters.

omar: It was possible on VHF (405-line analogue), but was poor and thus BBC had VHF 405-line services on Oxford. The UHF television signals (used for 625-line analogue and Freeview) will not reach Oxford from London or Birmingham.
The BBC covered the whole of the UK using transmitters at:
