Since we got up today, we have had a picture but no sound from anything on the tv although DVDs are producing sound. We have sky. Do you think this problem is caused by the digital switchover?

aron: I would count yourself lucky that you can receive directly from Crystal Palace, even if it is at roof level only. Those in the valley that can only receive from High Wycombe transmitter aren't so lucky as they only get limited channels.
If you are in an area where you get a good signal from High Wycombe transmitter, such that a set-top aerial will work, but not where it will pick up Crystal Palace, then you could consider having limited channels on your second set.
For High Wycombe your set-top aerial should be set vertically.

Sally Gordon: If you receive all your tv through sky then the digital switchover will not affect you. The most likely explanation for you getting a picture without sound (if the sky box is connected to the tv with a scart lead) is that one of the scart plugs is not properly inserted. They tend to come adrift over time.

After completing the Switchover, I have lost sound on a number of channels including all itv and e4 channels. The reception has dropped dramatically.

kim stevens: Switchover at all transmitters is carried out in two stages, usually two weeks apart.
At the first stage BBC standard definition services go on to full power and two weeks later the rest follow.
So if you're receiving from High Wycombe transmitter, independant channels will become available to you on Wednesday.
By the way, if you do receive your TV from High Wycombe, then you won't get the full Freeview service as it's a Public Service transmitter only.

My aerial is on the roof attached to the chimney. Its around 10 years old. I have retuned and I am receiving the Freeview lite service from the High Wycombe Transmitter. Is there a way I could receive the full Freeview service from Crystal Palace say by installing a taller pole or do I need a new aerial?

It could be a coincidence, but I've found during this switchover (both phases) that I've had a constant ringing in my right ear. It could just be tinnitus caused by something else, as I've had it for a few years now, but just recently during this of all times it's suddenly got a lot worse. Is there a high pitched frequency that Freeview uses? and is it possible I can hear it?

I have a vertically polarized aerial on my roof that was originally fitted to receive the four analogue channels from the High Wycombe transmitter. I've not used it for a number of years until today when I thought I'd see which channels it could now pick up with a retune, the answer is all of them, from all six mux! How? What other transmitter could I be picking up west of High Wycombe with a C/D or possibly E aerial? Thanks.

loungelizard: Hannington looks the most likely for your location albeit that the commercial muxes are indicated as poor, carry out a signal test on BBC1 for purposes of noting the channel number seen associated with the indication and if its Hannington Ch45 should be seen, also try this test on ITV3 and is this case mux Ch41 should be indicated.
If neither of the two channels mentioned are seen come back with the numbers you do see and they can be cross checked.
By the way I realise that you have your aerial vertically mounted, but if a signal is strong it will still be picked up no matter what the polarisation might be, especially if not line of sight.
