Hi there, moving to Royal Wootton Bassett in Jan '17. Wonder if Calne will be the nearest TV transmitter that the aerial needs to be tuned into?

Gautham: Going by the coverage map at the top of this page, the Calne transmitter wouldn't cover Wootton Bassett. Mendip would likely be the best option but if you enter the postcode of your new property you'll be able to access a prediction of the transmitters available to you.

I used to live near Lineham and Calne transmitter does not coveranything outside of a limited area of Calne. It is mainly an 'in fill' transmitter for those areas of Calne, such as parts of Oxford Road and parts of London Road, that are screened from the main Mendip transmitter by the hills at Sandy Lane and Derry Hill.
Royal Wootton Bassett is admirably covered by the full service Mendip transmitter. Look at Which Freeview channels does the Mendip transmitter broadcast? for details of the transmitter and the channels it uses.

You need a log-periodic aerial mounted externally above the roof, they are usually mounted on a chimney stack.
I use one of the type mentioned at Online FM DAB TV Aerial sales = other makes and suppliers are available.
