Paul: just as an update, without me doing anything (apart from only watching SD channels since) the HD channels have Returned and I've been working perfectly since so I suspect they have been messing about with the transmitter and just not telling anybody

If your reception is back to normal then it's quite possible there was unlisted engineering, sometimes the lists aren't 100% accurate. The other possibility could have been weather conditions causing interference from other transmitters. If problems reoccur, post back with some more detail including a full postcode so we can look at predicted reception in your locale.
