J.Tremlett: Because the Commercial (COM) channels broadcast by Beacon Hill aren't tuned in.

If you are wishing to receive the COM channels from Beacon Hill then your aerial should be directed to it and not to the Dartmouth relay, this being to give you the best chance of reliable reception.

Have you tried manually tuning the three COM channels: 42, 45, 51?

I live in TQ3 1QG, receive my signal from Beacon Hill and have five TV sets in the house. Two of these receive a 'split' signal with a slightly lower signal strength (9 instead of 10).Recently I am finding that my BBC Freeview channels sometimes become pixillated or disappear altogether. While this is happening, all other channels can still be received perfectly. Does anyone else have a similar problem, or is it caused by an intermittent fluctuation in the strength of the signal from this transmitter?

I live in TQ 3 and receive my signal from Beacon Hill. Monday night I retuned a Logica set that I have had for years so that I could receive the Drama channel and everything was fine. Last night I went to switch on and the set goes through its bootup sequence and then immediately returns to standby. I have heard that this has happened recently to a number of cheaper brands due to some issues with the transmitter(s). Is this correct? Or is it just coincidence that this failure occured the first time I tried to start up after a retune.

I am moving home to about 2 Miles south of Beacon Hill ( TQ4) and I am getting conflicting answers as to the correct aerial to install. The aerial has to be in the loft but it will have , more or less, direct line of sight to the transmitter. I am told I need a group W or alternatively a group E. With future channels in mind, which should I choose?

Martin: Wideband, this being if Group A channels are used in future.

A log periodic will be your best bet at such close proximity:

Thank you. In fact I have measured the distance again and it is only 1.25 miles between the transmitter and my location.

Martin: I suggest that as a matter of course you use double-screened coax and join any cables using f-connectors. Lots of information on ATV:

Why have I lost channels 30 and 31 (5 USA & 5*)
I have auto re-tuned several times but to no avail.
It was fine until about a week ago.

John Farmer, I've had this problem with my oldest T.V. The missing channels are now 101/102 and Channel 3 sometimes vanishes when I retune. The only answer appears to be perseverence and several retunes!

Dear Sir/Madam,
I live in Totnes which is about 7km from Beacon Hill,
Back in December 2012 I purchased a new aeriel, and a new digi box, up until Saturday of last week, I have been getting almost perfect pictures on most of the popular freeview channels, since then reception has been poor with a lot of blocking and breaking up, and now I cannot get BBC1, BBC2 or channel 80 news, I have tried to search for the channels several times now but when trying to get them on my set, I get the message "invalid entry", is there a problem with BBC at the moment?
