Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Naish Hill (Wiltshire, England) mast?

No problems on any service. BBC

UK Free TV shows the coverage area for a radio transmitter as a coloured overlay (orange for FM, other colours for DAB) on the grey map. We have computed the coverage by combining the terrain with the official radiation pattern. A single click will select the transmitter to view the coverage for a single site, and a double click goes to a page showing full details. Click on the buttons in the right-hand corner of the map to choose from different frequencies (or multiplexes for DAB).

what is DAB signal error ? I have very good signal strength but also fairly high signal error of +10 or more on radio `4 extra`&`planet rock`etc, also after auto scan 30+ stations are listed, but, only a few, <10 can be be listened to. Im using an attic aerial ( omni directional ) with a `Roberts 83i stream` reciever.my post code SN9 6AF

Is there a problem with BBC radio transmissions this morning? I have two dab radios and both have failed to pick up Radio 4 or 3.

Cheers, David

David Dunevein:
I am having problems in SN5 listiening to BBC Radio 4 today (4th Sept 2014). It was fine yesterday. Saw a post somewhere saying Vodafone were having technical issues but why this would affect DAB signal I don't know. I hope the change isn't permanent brought about by the changes made to the Freeview channels yesterday!

I had been reading some of the comments about DAB in the past but I have not had any occasion to make comments myself until now. I have a DAB radio in my car and at home,(Chippenham Wiltshire, Aerial Naish Hill.)
Up until now the signal in my car disappeared IN most of Chippenham town. At home, I could get about 5 or 6 stations. Now for some reason (signal boosted I suppose), I have no fade in town and when I retuned my radio at home I found 47 stations. The radio I have at home is a Pure One Flow. So I wonder if someone had made a complaint!

Richard:

No one has complained but the operators are in the process of making improvements and adjustments to several DAB transmitters, Naish Hill being one of them.

David Harrison:

It depends on exactly where in Bradford-on-Avon you are as to which transmitters you get coverage from due to the terrain, and even where in your property.
The Westwood transmitter does not carry the main BBC National DAB multiplex, but it does have a Local Commercial multiplex which carries BBC Radio Wiltshire.

You may get signals from Naish Hill to your NE, Bath to your NW, or Crockerton which is slightly E of due S. This also applies to the National Commercial multiplexes.
Some parts of Bradford-on-Avon may struggle with signals for the SDL National multiplex (eg. Boom, Jazz FM, Planet Rock, Scala, Talk Radio, Times Radio .... to name some).

Try and ensure your radio (or its aerial) has no thick walls or large metal objects such as Fridges, Freezers etc between it and the transmitter direction. Window sills in the appropriate direction can be a good choice. Even repositioning the radio or aerial by a few inches can sometimes make a difference!
