UK Free TV shows the coverage area for a radio transmitter as a coloured overlay (orange for FM, other colours for DAB) on the grey map. We have computed the coverage by combining the terrain with the official radiation pattern. A single click will select the transmitter to view the coverage for a single site, and a double click goes to a page showing full details. Click on the buttons in the right-hand corner of the map to choose from different frequencies (or multiplexes for DAB).

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Bakers Wood (Essex, England) mast?

No problems on any service. BBC

Could you please confirm the geographical location of the BBC Essex transmitter in Bakers Wood.

This Web page gives the coordinates of the transmitter as: 5146'0" N; 024'15" E, which places the transmitter North of Chelmsford. Your map also shows the location of the transmitter as being North of Chelmsford.

The Ofcom report of Local Radio Stations:

gives the location of the same transmitter as: " TL 660 034", which converts to the coordinates: 514219 N; 024 06 E, which locates the transmitter in Bakers Wood near Writtle, that is South of Chelmsford.

Could you please advise; is the BBC Essex transmitter, operating on 765 kHz, located North of Chelmsford, in the Chignall area, or is it located South of Chelmsford, in the Writtle area?

Many thanks and kind regards,

James.

James:

The co-ordinates on this web-page are wrong unfortunately, it is at TL660034. I would normally take the OFCOM information as correct, but I've also got the same information from a BBC site and some other sites known to be normally reliable.

I'm afraid there are a number of Analogue Radio transmitter locations around this site that aren't correct, there's obviously been a bug in transferring the co-ordinates, but as the site owner hasn't had the time to update all the TV transmitter data with all the 700MHz clearance changes, I doubt this will get attention soon.

So just to confirm, it is in Bakers Wood roughly to the SW of Chelmsford at TL660034.
