I am an elderly lady who is having trouble with tv picture breaking up in what has usually been a good reception area. I have had my aerial checked and another engineer in, to no avail and at a cost of £55 so far. My friend nearby is having the same problem. Mrs B Reid

Reid: In July we moved to this area and had a new aerial fitted on the roof of our bungalow. The engineer has been back several times, even fitted another aerial, but still we are losing ITV in the evenings and getting a radio program on the ITV channel. Help! We are getting exasperated! This evening again it went off at 21:00 and still is not back on at 22:15.

Jan: You should make one or two enquiries in the area to find out if others are also suffering from this problem? as cross channel interference can be a problem at various times during the year around the coastal areas of your region, the unfortunate aspect of this problem being that nothing can really be done to alleviate it, this being why many viewers decide to go for or the Freesat option.

Reid: I suspect you might have too strong a signal, since your potentially as little as 4km from a transmitter, and just 8km, if your using Storton. Even ones further away, like Moel Y Parc, are not all that far.
Check your signal stregnth, and what your tuned to, and then look here: Freeview signals: too much of a good thing is bad for you
Its strange that the person you paid didn't think about this, but its not uncommon. If you have a booster, then that could make things worse. Needless to say, that might explain your neighbours problem as well.

Jan : In addition to that said, and although less likely, but another possible reason could be due to interference being picked up from such as a pirate radio station of the mobile variety or otherwise set up in the evenings somewhere within the large industrial estate towards the rear of your property.

My parents are at ST 13 7FE and can only receive a very limited Free view of about 25 channels. Will this improve at some point? Thanks Iain

The local transmitter is a 'Freeview Lite' one and so only brioadcasts the PSB services and not the commercial ones. Elsewhere on this site is an explanation why this is so written by Dave Lindsay, a regular contributor to this site.
Chance of getting more services is probably zero from this transmitter. If the Ofcom plan for beyond 2019 happens then you may get more via some internet connection if it is fast enough.

The question is, might they be able to receive all channels from Sutton Coldfield? Possibly not reliably.
The problem is all the terrain in the way:

Just want to know why being North Lincolnshire that I can not receive local news for my area ie Look North for East Yorkshire and Humberside only getting West Yorkshire plus South Yorkshire news.
