Freeview reception at TA1 5AH

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

What do the map symbols mean?

EE,  Multiple operators,  O2,  3,  Vodafone,  location on line-of-sight,  Selected location,  Freeview transmitter,  Freeview light transmitter,  Engineering/fault today.

These icons show the potential locations for 4G-at-700MHz services that may interfere with Freeview reception at some point from 2020 when the 5G 700MHz services start.

sandra: Although youve got something in the way between you and Belmont, Digital UK reckons your fine for the transmitter, which your pretty close to.

It sounds like you aerial has a problem, probably a loose connection, corroded, etc. Check back from the TV, and make sure there are no loose connection, frayed wires or breaks where moisture could get in.

B M Laurence: have you checked with your neighbours if they are having problems? Winter Hill's frequency is high enough to possibly be hit by 4G, but if you suddenly getting nothing at all, that could be a sign of a problem with your aerial system. If they are having no problems, then that means its a problem with your system.

As JB38 points out, if they thought you could have a problem, they would have sent you a filter. You can always ask for one anyway, but JB38 is right, it simply could be a coincidence.

When will there be more Freeview channels on the Conwy transmitter. We are a bit like a third world country, there are lots of stations listed on the published programme guides, but only the basics are available to us in the Conwy Valley, yet we still pay the full amount for a TV licence!!!!

the Conwy Valley transmitter is a Freeview Lite service and hence you only get the PSB services, the commercial services are not planned to be available from that site. Look at the P's DigitalUK trade link adjacent to your post. Only if you are able to receive decent signals from Llandonna would you be able to get the commercial services, but my memory of that area includes sizable hills to the west of you iun the direction of that main transmitter.
You are already getting all that you are paying for, the license is to permit you to operate a TV receiver and everyone pays the same irrespective of whether the commercial operators chose to provide their programming.

Holmfirth

We are in Hepworth outside Holmfirth and for some time now our TVs have not been receiving the BBC channels through sockets connected to the aerial (on the roof), although we do get them through the satellite dish and we get all the other freeview channels through the aerial. Occasionally (eg last night) we got BBC but they were gone again this morning. When I look at the Emley moor transmitter map there is a white blob over our house yet there are no reported problems for this transmitter. On the channel installation menu it says they are on channel 47 and the signal quality flicks between poor and medium. When we get them it says it is very good but this does not happen very often now. Does it mean we will never receive BBC channels reliably again?

Lindsey Stevenson: Since your just 9km (ok, with a mountain seemingly in the way!), Digital Uk thinks you should get a great signal.

Two possible things occur. One, you are not tuned to Emley Moor. Thats on channel 49, but Bilsdale in on channel 26, and since the bearing is very similar, you might be getting that one instead. The other is that your aerial has a problem, but since BBC channels are usually the strongest, you'd expect those to disappear last, not first.

Accrington

Hi I live in Accrington and I'm considering buying an indoor aerial. The SLK Gold digitop Amplified performance indoor aerial infact.

I've read good reviews but just wondered whether I'd be wasting my time because they have to be used in areas where the signal is strong.

If you can help then thank you :)

Matt: Frankly, indoor aerial are pants, although you might be OK if your pretty close to the transmitter. The whole Gold thing is just marketing, and although there is some gain, its still an indoor aerial.

In general, the higher the aerial the better, and even one in the roof will do far better than something like the aerial you've suggested. Having said that, your pretty close to Haslingden, not that far from Winter Hill, and can probably touch Woodnook! So yes, it might be fine for Woodnook, although I wouldn't bother too much with the amplifying bit. You dont have to just look at the Philex one, there are loads on the Argos website, many of which seem to look very similar.

If you want Winter Hill, which has a full service, at least try a loft aerial.
