I have an old analogue tv which was attached to a HUMAX PVR and then a Pioneer DVR/DVDR - Pioneer packed up after about 10 years' service and I have managed to find a Toshiba RDXV60KB but this has 2 freeviwe tuners, as the signal comes into the Humax I don't want to use the tuners and have the ariel connected to Humax first then Toshiba. Result is when I try to set up Toshiba it tries to search for signal and turns itself off after a couple of minutes.
I know the best thing is just to ditch the Humax BUT a) I still have programmes on the hard drive I want to watch and a couple I want to put onto DVD and b) I think the series linkage on the Humax although poor compared to my late lamented TiVo is likely to be better than on the Toshiba. Can anyone advise me how I might set the three pieces of hardware up to make this work please as plugging in the Toshiba exactly as the Pioneer was doesn't work presumably because of the tuning issue. Thanks.

Thanks for this Mike - Unfortunately only the one scart on the TV (though somwhere I think I have an old scart switcher but would have no idea how to hook it up now). For one brief moment it looked as if the Toshiba was coming through on Scart RGB instead of Scart AV (which is what used to happen on the Pioneer - the DVR had to me on to watch TV but ovbiously the PVR could be off to watch DVD). What I find really strange is that the Toshiba menu screen showed for about 2 minutes on this setting then having not identified any channels, just switched to standby in VHS mode and then off completely (not a promising start) - I suspect what I have to do first is at least set it up WITHOUT the Humax to see that it works at all.

Thanks Mike - the TV is a Logik 23" flat screen - couldn't tell you what model without fishing out the manual - about 7 or 8 yrs old. Only has one SCART socket but refers to the two options on the source menu.
Forgive my lack of comprehension but how do I make the RF loop operate while its in standby? If I put the Toshiba in first is there a way I can record from the PVR to DVD? The splitter sounds a good idea but I have a project I need to complete sooner rather than later so I wanted to try something tonight.

MikeB: Thanks - will give this a go - wish I'd known about the Blu-Ray (should have come to this site BEFORE worrying about getting a replaccement) - didn't realise it would do the DVDs as well - it was less than the internet price you mentioned though. The TV doesn't have a freeview tuner - it was just a little bit too old (probably why it was on offer at the tim - the new model that replaced it probably did!).

Mike/Steve - I am pretty sure the Tosh is defective. I shall try to find time to take it back tomorrow - I decided to set it up as freeview tuner unit direct to TV to see if it worked - all connections were tight and I tried 2 different SCARTS but each time got a decent picture for less than 5 minutes and then it disappeared - power light still on front panel but no pwer. Seeemd to be using SCART RGB rather than AV. Think I'll go for the Smart TV & Blu-ray suggestion if I can get a refund on the Tosh as I'm convinced its defective (Lucky I got it in store not on-line!).

Oh and JB thanks for your help too - as you can see I couldn't get that far. My signal has been pretty good previously - Post code is SG7 if that helps.
