Switchover starts in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire

If you live in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire your digital switchover starts tonight.

published on UK Free TV

This week sees the first stage of the digital television switchover for 747,300 homes in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

From 6am Wednesday 3rd August 2011, you must to a perform a "first time installation" retune (sometimes "Factory Reset" or "Shipping Condition") on your Freeview box or television set if you use the Belmont or Oliver's Mount full service Freeview transmitters. This is because the old "multiplex 1" BBC service will be replaced by the BBCA multiplex on a different frequency.

If you use the Grimsby (by noon), Hunmanby (9am), Lincoln Central (by 9am) or Weaverthorpe (by 6am) relay transmitters, from Wednesday 3rd August 2011 you will be able to receive the BBC Freeview services (with the exception of HD) for the first time, and you will no longer be able to view BBC TWO on analogue.

You MAY find that old equipment will no longer work - see TVs and boxes that do not support the 8k-mode

On Wednesday 17th August 2011 will see the second stage of switchover, which provides the final Freeview configuration, including Freeview HD for all transmitters in this region.

On this date, you will need, once again, to do a "first time installation" as indicated above.

A small aside

Whenever I hear the name "Belmont", it reminds me of seeing this card on the ITV button in the morning

Which was accompanied by this music and voice: Yorkshire Television Theme Tune which I guess must have been some early inspiration for this site...

When Wrekin did switchover, the first analogue channel (IIRC BBC2) went off about 10 or 20 past midnight and all gone by morning.

BBC2 Ch. 28 analogue went off at 12.25 when I was watching The Tudors and 'Coast' appeared without any break in transmission. Checked BBC1 analogue Ch.22 and that had gone.
Freeview channels on Ch 22 up-and-running when I did a retune at 2.45a.m.

By the way when I think of the Belmont transmitter site, I always go back to the mid-1970's when (after Anglia handed-over the transmitter to YTV) Anglia still provided a local weather forecast for the Belmont service area and the weather man, Michael Hunt always concluded his forecast with the words 'Good-bye to Belmont'.

Happy days!

Steve P: I think you will find that BBC TWO analogue went off on 6th April 2011 at The Wrekin and the other four analogue services two weeks later on 20th April 2011..

satellitemandaz: I can't say can I? With my childhood reminiscing of 1970s ITV test broadcasts?

I have just been asked to do a retune by my Freeview TV set, I now have an extra 20 BBC programs!
I'm in Leeds area, how can I tell where the BBC1 on 1 is coming from and the other on 800?
