Boxes that do not support both 2k and 8k modes

Some boxes are having problems during switchover supporting both modes at the same times:

  • Sharp TU-R160H
  • Humax 9200T
  • Thomson DTi 1000

The workaround appears to be to add the "8k" channel manually (C62 for Selkirk, for example) and then to do this procedure after switchover is complete: My Freeview box has no EPG, is missing Film4, Channel 4+1, no sound on ITV3 or the channel line up is wrong - ukfree.tv - independent digital television and switchover advice, since 2002

This is on top of the boxes that could not cope with the changes to the Network Information Table (NIT): Daewoo DS608P, Labgear DTT100, Triax DVB 2000T, Portland DP100 and these VCR/STBs: Daewoo SV900, Bush IDVCR01

I have the same problem as Susan. I also receive from Waltham and in both stages of switchover the 8k channels are exactly the ones I can't receive. I can only receive Mux A now. My question is: could the 8k issue be an aerial problem, or must I get a new box/attenuator? I live in Leicester and don't think my signal is too strong. My TV is a LG M227WDP, with built-in tuner and is rather new. It's not in the list with known problems. Want to check first before spending money. Thx.

I seem to be having the same problem. BBC services are ok albeit from Sutton Coldfield which means no East midlands regional programmes. But absolutely no ITV services. Are these from the understrength Waltham transmitter ? Is the ITV signal FreeviewHD only ? My Daewoo box is suitable for DVB-T,does this mean I will need a new box or upgrade if ITV transmit in HD only?

Keith G: Yes! as DVB-T cannot receive Freeview HD.

In your area you might require to manually tune in Waltham channels if your TV / box does not have a regional scan facility, although the predictor does indicate first class reception being possible from Waltham, that said I would exclude Mux Ch29 as thats on low power until October 12th.

Walthams Mux Ch's 29(SDN) - 54(ITV1 etc) - 56(ArqA) - 57(ArqB) - 58(HD) - 61(BBC1 etc)

Keith G: And just to add to above, before trying a manual tune, first of all blanking off anything stored in the memory by carrying out a complete re-scan without the aerial being connected.

Keith G: Did you find this page because your Daewoo box is listed? If so, check for the services you want in the 800s. A manual retune might get the services you want at the default position.

Digital UK indicate that the DS700 will put channels in the 800s, while the DS608P and SV900 were expected to lock up when scanning. Unfortunately the original manufacturer of these boxes - they're rebadged - went into administration long ago and no updates are available.

I have repeatedly re-installed all my channels and stored them and, at first, everything seems fine but after a few hours (mostly I notice this the following day) I have lost all the BBC channels and have to go through the whole process again. I have no difficulty in getting the channels, just in keeping them. Is there some sort of interference which interrupts the signal, is this just to do with the switchover and will it improve on it's own as things settle down? My TV is a Phillips Model 32PFL55220/05.

When you say "lost them" do you mean that you are no longer offered them to select, or that you can select them but get no signal?

If the former, ? box/tuner bust - do others get the same?

If the latter, do the signals ever come back? And if you retune when they are absent, do you get them?

Note that Digital TV reception is effectively a 2 stage process

1) Identify and store an available channel

2) Actually receive it.

Good. Sounds like box got its knickers twisted.

They are, of course, little computers, and just like their big bretheren sometimes benefit from "powercycling". Which means actually unplugging them from the power supply, as "off" rarely really means "off".
