Boxes that do not support both 2k and 8k modes

Some boxes are having problems during switchover supporting both modes at the same times:

  • Sharp TU-R160H
  • Humax 9200T
  • Thomson DTi 1000

The workaround appears to be to add the "8k" channel manually (C62 for Selkirk, for example) and then to do this procedure after switchover is complete: My Freeview box has no EPG, is missing Film4, Channel 4+1, no sound on ITV3 or the channel line up is wrong - ukfree.tv - independent digital television and switchover advice, since 2002

This is on top of the boxes that could not cope with the changes to the Network Information Table (NIT): Daewoo DS608P, Labgear DTT100, Triax DVB 2000T, Portland DP100 and these VCR/STBs: Daewoo SV900, Bush IDVCR01

I have 2 digital tvs in the house. One (Panasonic) has retuned perfectly in the last few days finding 110 channels, the other retunes but stops at 99 channels and is no longer giving me BBC1 or BBC2. This is a Sanyo CE32-LD4 - I guess limited to 99 presets but the channels I really want are missing. Sanyo haven't (yet) responded to my question - how do I select 99 wanted channels?

How do you even know how many channels you have?

Are the BBC channels at a high broadcast channel number where you are? If so, start your scan with the aerial unplugged, and plug it in when you get to the BBC channels.

Or a low number if your scan starts high?

Richard: I think the best option is to get a Freeview or Freeview HD box from a store and use that with your set. Sanyo may, if you ask them, provide you with a box.

Have recently had to down grade high level mast head amps on crystal palace due to amplification distortion of digitail carriers,
any info: about changes of transmission levels that i do not know about, these problems seem to affect com: systems only, have had similar problems on multiple distrubution amps where analog levels are high.

DAVID BEST: Very hard to say without a postcode. Generally speaking unnecessary amplification will distort the digital signals and make their reception unreliable.

my freeview box worked perfectly prior to the switchover and still does on all channels except the BBC ones. Will this fix itself - if not what shall I do

Stephen Robinson: If your box is on the above list, no, unless it is the Humax 9200T.

You may have too strong a signal, if you have an amplifier or booster, remove it from your system.

Since my freeview box no longer receives any BBC channels I take it I will no longer require a television license?

Alan G: No, you require a TV licence if the TV is *capable* of receiving any off-air signals.

If you are in central Scotland, note that the Black Hill and Craigkelly transmitters, and their relays, have only been through the first stage of switchover so far. The second stage happens two weeks after the first stage, and all other multiplexes change mode at all transmitters. If your equipment does not support the 8K mode, you will lose everything, not just the BBC channels.
